West Virginia Beekeepers Association Spring Conference 2018
The 2018 West Virginia Beekeepers Association’s Spring Conference was hosted by the Raleigh County Beekeepers Cooperative Association and the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective. This event was held at Tamarack Conference Center in Beckley, WV on March 23 & 24, 2018.
Featured speakers included Dr. Debbie Delaney, Associate Professor of Entomology for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Delaware, Dr. Parry Kietzman, Head Beekeeper/Researcher for the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective and Dr. James Wilson an Extension Apiculturist at Virginia Tech.
Highlights included sessions on honeybee removal from structures, West Virginia native plants, products of the hive (i.e. lotions, soaps, lip balms), wax renderings comb to candle as well as a hands-on wax demonstration.
Conference registrants were treated to breakfast as well as lunch at Tamarack Conference Center.
In addition, a tour of the Beckley Exhibition Mine and Coal Camp as well as a Q & A session with the presenters and Master Beekeeping Requirements occurred on Friday evening, March 23rd.
